|Each vial contains cefotaxime sodium equivalent to 1 g of cefotaxime, powder for solution for injection in vial № 1 with solvent 4 ml in ampoule № 1

ATC code: J01D A10, Beta-lactam antibiotics, cephalosporins.

Cefotaxime is a third generation broad spectrum bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic. The bactericidal properties are due to the inhibitory effect of cefotaxime on bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Unlike β-lactams such as penicillin and amoxicillin, which are highly susceptible to degradation by β-lactamase enzymes (produced, for example, nearly universally by S. aureus), cefotaxime boasts the additional benefit of resistance to β-lactamase degradation due to the structural configuration of the cefotaxime molecule. The syn-configuration of the methoxyimino moiety confers stability against β-lactamases. Consequently, the spectrum of activity is broadened to include several β-lactamase-producing organisms (which would otherwise be resistant to β-lactam antibiotics).

  1. Cefotaxime is indicated in the treatment of serious infections, either before the infecting organism has been identified or when caused by bacteria of established sensitivity, including
  • Osteomyelitis,
  • Septicaemia,
  • Bacterial endocarditis,
  • Meningitis, and
  • Peritonitis. and other serious bacterial infections suitable for parenteral antibiotic therapy.

   2. Cefotaxime may be used for pre-operative prophylaxis in patients undergoing surgical procedures that may be classified as contaminated or potentially so.
